Because “Offline” is Not an Option
When the internet goes down, business grinds to a halt. Emails freeze, calls drop, cloud apps vanish, and frustration skyrockets. That is why in September ITGuys rolled out firewalls with spillover internet connections for the customers we support.
The goal: keep your business online no matter what. If the primary internet connection fails, a backup automatically kicks in. No scrambling, no phone calls, no downtime. Just seamless continuity.
Why We Do It
Internet outages happen. Service goes down, construction cuts a line, equipment fails. If there is no backup, everything stops. That downtime costs money, wastes time, and frustrates everyone.
With spillover connections in place, customers stay connected. It is business as usual, even when the main internet provider has a bad day.
How It Works
Here’s the setup:
- We configure firewalls to automatically detect when the primary internet goes offline.
- A secondary connection (usually cellular-based) takes over instantly.
- When the main line comes back, the firewall switches you back without a hitch.
Think of it like having a generator for your internet. If the power fails, the backup hums to life and keeps the lights on.
What We Found
During this project we also discovered something important: some customers’ cellular backup modems had stopped working. This happens occasionally, and when it does, the “generator” is useless.
So we worked with Comcast to request replacements and made sure every customer had a functional backup in place.
What Customers See
From a user’s perspective, you will not even notice when spillover happens. The connection stays up, your apps keep running, and life goes on.
Without it, the experience would be very different: dropped calls, failed transactions, angry teams, and downtime you cannot afford.
The Results
By the end of September, our customers had:
- Firewalls configured for seamless spillover internet.
- Backup cellular modems tested and replaced where needed.
- Significantly reduced risk of downtime from ISP outages.
The end result: always-on connectivity, which is the foundation of productivity in a connected world.
Why It Matters for You
The internet is like oxygen for your business. You barely notice it when it is working, but you notice instantly when it is not. Spillover keeps the oxygen flowing.
Benefits include:
- Continuity: No interruptions, even if your ISP goes dark.
- Reliability: Backup modems keep you online when the unexpected happens.
- Peace of mind: You can count on your systems being there when you need them.
Looking Ahead
Spillover is not a one-and-done project. We will continue monitoring, testing, and replacing backup equipment as needed. Technology should support you, not leave you hanging.
Final Word
September was about resilience. With firewalls and spillover internet in place, ITGuys customers are prepared for outages before they even happen.
You keep working, serving customers, and hitting deadlines. We will make sure the internet is always there when you need it.
