Cable Removal Services
Why Remove Old Cabling
Removing unused Ethernet or fiber cabling isn’t just cleanup, it’s a practical necessity. Old, abandoned cable lurks in ceilings, walls, or floors bring hidden costs in compliance, safety, and performance. They may also be a safety risk.
Lease Compliance
In Denver and surrounding jurisdictions, many commercial leases mandate that all unused cabling be removed before move-out. Landlords may levy fines or deduct from deposits if stray cables remain behind.
Performance
Redundant cable bundles can aggravate electromagnetic interference (EMI), disrupt signal integrity on adjacent active lines, or complicate upgrades. And when cables crowd airflow paths, cooling becomes less efficient around switches and servers.
Safety & Code Compliance
Per NEC Sections 800.25 and 725.25, abandoned communications or Class-2/3 cables must be removed (unless removal would damage building finish). Local Denver building and fire codes adopt these standards, making the requirement enforceable in our region.
Our Cable Removal Process
We use a clean, structured 3-phase approach—careful, compliant, no surprises.
1. Survey & Planning
- Scan risers, cable trays, ceiling plenums, wall cavities, and termination points
- Collaborate with facility or property teams to map access windows and shutdowns
- Use tone tracers, continuity scanners, port testers to inventory live vs. dead lines
- Document everything (diagrams, labels, risk zones) before touching a wire
2. Safe Disconnection & Isolation
- Coordinate with IT or infrastructure teams so active systems stay unaffected
- Power down circuits if needed, verify no live signal using appropriate testers
- Disconnect at patch panels, jacks, or splice points; cap or terminate exposed ends
- Respect wall finishes, fire barriers, conduits, leaving the space as we found it
3. Extraction, Disposal & Cleanup
- Gently pull cables using low-tension methods (fish tape, pulling socks, cushioned guides)
- If a cable section can’t be removed without damaging finishes, leave it concealed but clearly tagged (per NEC allowance)
- Separate copper, fiber, jacket materials; recycle via certified e-waste partners
- Clean dust, remove clips, restore ceiling tiles or mounts, and confirm active lines still work
- Deliver a final removal report with photos, diagrams, and notes
