Keeping Microsoft 365 Accounts in Top Shape

Microsoft 365 does a lot behind the scenes to protect your business, but those protections only work if the right settings are in place. That is where ITGuys comes in.

This April we ran a security review using Azure AD and Graph tools across customer environments. The goal: make sure every Microsoft 365 account is configured properly, secure from modern threats, and running at peak performance.

Why We Do It

Think of Microsoft 365 like a powerful car. It has seatbelts, airbags, and safety features built in, but they only protect you if they are set up correctly. Leaving settings unchecked or misconfigured is like driving without buckling up.

By reviewing security controls regularly, we:

  • Catch risky account settings before they cause issues.
  • Ensure accounts use modern protections like multi-factor authentication.
  • Keep permissions clean, so old accounts and unused access do not linger.
  • Spot areas that require customer approval before changes are made.

Without this review, businesses risk leaving the door cracked open for attackers.

How It Works

Here’s the process we followed this April:

  • Ran Azure AD Graph and security reports inside Microsoft 365.
  • Reviewed administrative and security configurations across accounts.
  • Checked for risky policies, inactive accounts, and out-of-date settings.
  • Documented any areas that require customer approval, especially if there is a financial component to the fix.

Everything else? We handled quietly in the background.

What We Found

Most customers had solid setups, but common issues included:

  • Users without multi-factor authentication enabled.
  • Legacy protocols or services still allowed when no longer needed.
  • Permissions that were broader than necessary.
  • Accounts that had been inactive but were still enabled.

These are not always critical, but over time they add up to security gaps.

What We Did About It

For issues we could fix without customer involvement, we took care of them. For changes requiring new licenses, additional services, or financial approval, we reported them clearly so customers could make informed decisions.

This keeps environments secure while respecting budgets and business priorities.

The Results

By the end of April, supported Microsoft 365 environments had:

  • Cleaner permissions and account structures.
  • More consistent use of strong authentication.
  • Reduced reliance on outdated protocols.
  • Clear action plans for any changes requiring customer approval.

The result: accounts in tip-top shape, ready for the evolving security landscape.

Why It Matters for You

Your Microsoft 365 accounts are the front line of your business. Regular security reviews mean:

  • Protection: Stronger defenses against unauthorized access.
  • Clarity: You know exactly what changes were made and which ones need your approval.
  • Confidence: Systems are aligned with best practices, not left on autopilot.

It is a proactive way to make sure your investment in Microsoft 365 keeps paying off.

Looking Ahead

Microsoft updates its admin tools and security recommendations often. ITGuys will keep reviewing and adjusting settings so you stay aligned with the best protections available.

This was April’s project, but it is part of an ongoing cycle: monitor, review, improve, repeat.

Final Word

April’s Azure AD Graph Security Review was about making sure Microsoft 365 accounts are not just working, but working safely. ITGuys tuned up the behind-the-scenes settings, flagged anything that required approval, and left customers with environments ready for the future.

It is another example of the quiet work we do each month so you can focus on running your business with confidence.
